How to Apply Emo Makeup

The essence of the emo looks is relatively nature. In most cases, the most distinguishing factor is the eyes. You can achieve the natural look by only concentrating your makeup efforts on your eyes, or you can still get a comparatively natural look by doing the whole makeup. Unlike other makeup styles, emo makeup is quite dramatic and the focus is on the eyes.


Foundation
If your skin is fairly smooth and acne free, you’ll probably want to leave out using foundation completely. Otherwise, you should start with a skin tone concealer on the more blotchy spots of your face. When you have finished applying concealer then it’s time for the foundation. To start apply foundation, you will need a sponge. ut a small amount of liquid foundation onto your sponge. Remember that, oftentimes, less is more. Now start in the center of your face and apply the foundation, working from the center of your face towards the sides rather than up and down.


Eye Shadow
Most emos opt for black or smoky eye shadows to give the eye make up a more dramatic effect and to help the color of the eyes stand out more. Applying eye shadow should be the first step in the eye makeup process. Start by dusting your eyelids with a small amount of loose powder. This will keep the eye shadow from causing that horrid eye makeup clumping that tends to happen at the crease of the eye lid. It will also help your eye shadow to stay on all day long instead of swearing it off.


Eye Liner
All emos who do not go for the completely natural look wear fairly dramatic eye makeup. Using pencil eye liner will not give your eyes as much of a stand out dramatic affect as liquid eye liners do. Most emos wear black eye liner only, but you can experiment with different colors as you like. Use eye liner after you’ve applied your eye shadow and before you’ve applied your mascara.


Mascara
There are tons of different types of mascara to choose from. For the purpose of emo makeup, it’s recommended that you choose a brand that is designed for lengthening. Most emos wear black mascara. Applying mascara is the last step in the eye makeup process. 


Lip Gloss
Most emos I know don’t wear lip stick. Those that do choose to go with a natural tone. Many, however, do wear lip gloss. It makes the lips shine all pretty like, keeps them hydrated, and usually either smells and/or tastes fruity. The process of applying lip gloss is fairly simple and straight forward. For liquid lip gloss, take the applicator stick and rub the gloss on your lips, evenly distributing it. For roll-on lip gloss, roll the roller across your lips, starting with your bottom lip and then the top lip. For tube lip gloss, put a small amount on your finger and rub it on your lips.


Blush
Most emos don’t use blush at all, but if you are going to use it, choose a light shade that matches the color of your cheeks after you have finished exercising. This is your natural blushing color. If you have dry skin, you may want to use a cream blush as it will help to keep your face hydrated. If you have oily skin, then you’re skin is better suited for a type of powder blush. You will want to have finished applying your concealer, foundation, and eye makeup before you begin applying blush.

Pluck Your Eye Brows Like a Pro

Arches done right can make eyes seem bigger and brighter, visually lift sagging lids, revving up hair color and giving you an all-over gorgeous look. “Eyebrows are so important, they really help shape and define your face,” notes brow expert Anastasia Soare, who does brow shape-ups for celebrities like Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner. Get pretty arches that are perfect for you with these tips.

Eyebrow Shaping Tools
What you’ll need: slant tip tweezers, a spiral brow brush (it looks like a clean mascara wand), and a stencil with brow powder and a brow brush.


Step-by-step Eyebrow Shaping
“The idea is to find balance between your brows and other features,” says Soare. “Take your time and step back from the mirror as you pluck every few hairs, to make sure you’re creating as much symmetry in your brows as possible.”
1.  Look into a regular mirror (a magnifying mirror will make it look like there’s more hair to remove than there really is) and gently brush brows up and outward with the spiral brush to get a sense of your natural brow shape.
2.  Brow stencils are a foolproof way to maintain your brows. Align the stencil over your brow (choose one that allows the most hair to come through). As you hold it there, use the brow brush to fill in your brow with brow powder. When you’re done, remove the stencil and tweeze the stray hairs beneath the powdered area for a clean, shaped line.
3.  While you can clean up the fuzz between your brows, don’t tweeze from the actual brow itself or you risk over-widening the space between the eyebrows. Leave tweezing above the brow to a pro. “It’s a tricky area and can lead to a flattened arch if not done perfectly,” says Soare. An expert knows how to brush the brows up and trim just the very tips of the tiny hairs, but it’s hard to do it yourself, and a mistake can lead to bald patches.
4.  Follow these steps every four weeks and try not to over-pluck -- brows with a more natural look are in.

Day-to-day Eyebrow Grooming
Blessed with full brows? Just use a little brow gel (waxy lip balm works in a pinch) to fix them in place and impart a healthy sheen. If your brows are sparse in spots, you may want to fill them in regularly with brow powder or pencil. Choose powder or pencil one shade lighter than your brows (unless they’re very pale) and use feathery strokes. Or consider a tinted brow gel as a one-step color-and-taming option.
Short brows can be extended carefully with a brow pencil. Draw a line that’s just long enough to accentuate the arch. Making the line too long can close in your eyes or make a heart-shaped face appear top-heavy, and a thin tail will leave your eyes looking droopy. Go half as far as you think you should and step back to survey; you’ll know when it looks right.

Gone Too Far?
If you’ve repeatedly tweezed too aggressively, the bad news is that some of the hairs may not grow back. “Plucking exerts a traction force on the hair follicle that can scar the follicle over time,” says dermatologist Francesca Fusco. The good news is that some of those absent hairs may simply be in their rest cycle. Fusco adds that certain ingredients in brow serums, like peptides, can nudge skimpy arches back into the growth cycle. Look for a serum that also contains saw palmetto -- small studies have indicated it may inhibit an enzyme that contributes to hair loss. Paint the serum on brows twice a day and give it about two months to do its magic.

How to Know If your Makeup is Expired


Old makeup can cause infections and damage your skin. We will helps you learn how to toss that makeup and keep your makeup drawer clean and organized.
Steps:
1. Look through your old makeup for a chemical change. Changes include: a rancid odor, color change, and changed texture or consistency, like nail polish hardening, or makeup becoming crusty.
2. If you can’t remember when you bought it, throw it out.
3. Learn to part with your old makeup. No matter how pretty it is, you would be better off throwing it out than risking disease, plus your makeup wardrobe will feel fresh, and you’ll clear up space in your drawer. This is the perfect excuse to go on a makeup shopping spree!
4. When you buy makeup, don’t be afraid to use it, so you won’t waste money. If you’d like to save money on makeup, only buy the colors and types you know you use regularly.
5. Date makeup when you buy it. Write the month and year on it with a permanent marker. If you’re not sure about when to toss old makeup, six months is a good thumb rule. Or, write in a notebook or calendar when you got what. It’s the date you open it (not bought or received it) that matters.
Tips:
Replace makeup applicators weekly. Buy some of the cheap sponges and such at a store like Wal-Mart or Target.
If makeup looks old or changes texture or color, throw it out. If it smells bad too, throw it out.
If your mascara is clumpy, chuck it. Tons of bacteria could be growing inside.
If your foundation is thickening, chuck that too. Again with the bacteria.
Eye makeup and liquid foundations last the least amount of time. These should be disposed of after six months.
Don’t share lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip balms. They can give you the herpes virus. This virus causes cold sores and eventually makes you very sick, and it’s not fun to have. So even if your friend has a really cute lip gloss, just find out what brand and shade or flavor or number it is and go buy it yourself. You’re better off spending a few extra bucks on new makeup than getting a virus that sticks with you for life.
Throw out mascara after three months.
Discard concealer after 18 months. It’s touching blemishes (pimples, acne) and that part of your face is more prone to infection.
Loose powder can last for years.
Cream eyeshadow lasts 12-18 months, powder eyeshadow lasts 2 years.
Lip gloss lasts 18 months.
Lipstick can last 2-3 years.
Nail Polish can last about one year.
Throw out too-old makeup no matter how pretty it is.
Get your own makeup, and use it well. Don’t be afraid of using it too quickly; do throw it out when it’s time.
